When an invitation to the past triggers a plot of espionage, betrayal and usurpation, spaces take on a meaning of their own. La sospecha de Sofía, the new film from José Frade PC and Universal Picturesexplores this territory where the house is not a refuge, but a stage for doubt.
Set in Spain in the 1970s and in the divided Berlin of the Cold War, the story takes us back to a time when appearances were a form of survival and the locations an extension of the characters’ souls.

A story of doubles and secrets

Directed by Imanol Uribe, the film follows Sofia (Marta Nieto) and Daniel (Javier Rey), a couple whose perfect life falls apart when he receives a letter from his birth mother in East Berlin.
Upon accepting the invitation, he finds himself caught in a KGB plot. His twin brother, Klaus, has been groomed to replace him and rob him of his identity, his family and his destiny. Uribe opts for a slow and visual rhythm, where the real spaces are real spaces reflect the minds of the characters: places full of history, worn beauty and emotional tension.

Rep Locations Locations in La sospecha de Sofia

At Rep Locations we collaborated with the production to provide authentic and narrative scenarios. Among them, Klaus Zaisser’s apartment stands out, a key space within the plot.

Grandparents Apartment from the 50’s – REF: P06706RL

This antique apartment in the center of Madrid was chosen for its period aesthetics and melancholic air. Its high ceilings, mosaic floors and classic furniture evoke the charm of the Latin Quarter in Paris, an essential visual reference in the film. The space reflects the character’s psychology: a man caught between the identity he steals and the one he tries to hide.
The apartment P06706RL not only sets the scene: it narrates. Its sifted light and narrow corridors provide a symbolic charge that intensifies the suspense, demonstrating how real locations can be real locations can also be characters in the story.

La sospecha de Sofía premiered in Spain on October 3, 2025, to great acclaim for its cinematography and art direction.
The spaces managed by Rep Locationssuch as Klaus’ apartment, were key to building a coherent and emotional aesthetic.
